As of the summer of 2012, and after a 14year long cooperation with Heidmar and other Star Tankers Inc. members, Pleiades Shipping chose to pursue a commercially independent venue.

With the addition of experienced members possessing a strong commercial shipping background and at the same time of fresh and eager people the move ensures the company's evolution and further optimization of its operations. Pleiades now operates its fleet of seven (7) Panamax, two (2) Aframax tankers and two (2) Chemical / Product Tankers, coordinated commercially via the Pleiades S.A. Company Headquarters, situated in Greece.

The company's fleet operates along worldwide trading routes, primarily between North and South America, the Caribbean and Far East, transporting crude oil and dirty petroleum products. The company provides chartering services, management of day to day operations, crew recruitment and training, insurance placement, supply of stores, spares and fuel, financial and accounting services, as well as dry-docking and special survey commissioning.

The Company emphasizes on regional and fleet specialization, service quality and technical expertise to achieve superior operating results and customer relationships.

The fleet is maintained and operated to the highest industry standards with both seagoing and onshore staff being continuously trained in safety, environmental management systems and crisis-response procedures as required by the industry.

As a measure of the success of its operating strategy, the Company has developed long-term relationships with many major oil companies, oil traders and government agencies. These include BP, CHEVRON, EXXONMOBIL, SHELL, PHILLIPS66, STATOIL, TOTAL, CITGOPET, COLONIAL, HESS, HUNT, NUSTAR, PETROBRAS, VALERO, VITOL, WESTPORT and LUKOIL.

During 2018 the company took delivery of three newbuildings that it had contracted. These consisted of one Crude Oil aframax tanker built in Japan and two IMO II/III Medium Range product tankers built in South Korea.
